The background was painted with traditional gouache to create a less-realistic scene with soft edges to help illustrate the surreal feeling of comfort that the mother provided. Gold acrylic paint was used to create a ring of light and an almost magical presence around the figures that shows warmth and comfort. The gold paint was also used to add accents to the mother character. Lastly, the figures were drawn with copic markers because of their interesting soft blend as well as their bright colors which stood out against the cold tones of the background. This piece was an illustration of a personal story about finding safety, love, and comfort within a scary place.
